Happy Friday! We plan to have a quiet weekend which I always enjoy. Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, so we’ll likely take Lyla to our favorite local ice cream shop for a treat.  I’m happy to say that’s the extent of our plans. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Here are some of my favorites from this week. Enjoy!

Favorite Shopping Opp: Nordstrom started their semi-annual sale yesterday for card holders and it opens to the public on July 20th. Fashion bloggers everywhere are abuzz as it’s arguably the most anticipated sale of the year. Basically, the new fall lines arrive and Nordstrom knocks down the prices considerably on many items. I’m not a huge designer fashion shopper as my budget frowns upon spending our mortgage payment on a pair of shoes, but I have found a few deals that I’m considering: These leggings, this dress, these jeans (I raved about this brand in this FF post), this adorable baby coat, and this cardigan.

Favorite “I never thought of that” Idea: My mom’s next door neighbors have a beautiful garden behind their house with multiple flower beds, potted plants galore, pavers, shrubs, trees, birdfeeders and birdbaths. It’s literally a mecca of pretty things. Lucky for me, they also don’t have a fence, so we can enjoy the gorgeous view from mom’s dining room. I happened to notice (not creepily staring into their yard I promise) last week that they added ice cubes to the bird baths so that the birds can have a refreshing dip. Such a “cool” idea (wamp wamp).

Favorite Recipe: I’m not fancy when it comes to cooking meals. I like healthy, tasty, and easy to prepare whilst a baby dangles on my leg. I’ve made this simplified chicken cordon bleu several times and love it! I usually double the sauce and add just a bit more flour to thicken it. Pair with roasted asparagus and garlic butter mushrooms for a guilt-free dinner.

Favorite Summer Activity: We went canoeing last Saturday with four other couples and had the best time! We did a nine mile trek and it took us about 6.5 hours to complete it. It was such a fun way to spend the day with friends. I’m not terribly outdoorsy and still really enjoyed it. I highly recommend going if and when you have the chance.

Favorite Baby Milestones: I feel like Lyla is at that age where she’s literally doing something new every day. Just this week she’s officially taken her first hands-free steps, is trying to say “dog”, will stop mid-crawl and put her head down pretending to go night-night, and wants to cuddle with a stuffed animal in her crib. She also finally has enough hair to put into a tiny Cindy Lou Who ponytail, or two small pigtails. I bought these little elastics and just love the feeling of brushing her hair into some sort of adorable style.
