I briefly gave this blend a shout-out in a recent Friday Favorites post, but wanted to fill you in on why and how this doTERRA blend has impacted my family’s life and can do the same for yours.

doTERRA (learn more here) offers many different blends to promote different results. I was first introduced to the Serenity blend about five years ago. I was working at a job that I didn’t enjoy and was having one of my all too frequent bad moments at the office. My girlfriend whipped together what is referred to in the doTERRA community as the quintessential calming blend. This blend is a blend of two blends…..still following?: Serenity and Balance. I do suffer from bouts of anxiousness from time to time and I’m quite familiar with the physical feeling that one experiences when an episode comes on. After a quick swipe on the soles of my feet and on the tip of my nose, the anxious feelings started to melt away. It’s as if I just didn’t care quite as much about whatever was stirring the emotions (more like blending them on top speed) and it was great!

I will save more details about how important this calming blend is for my family for another post, but for now let me get back to the blend at hand.

What is it?:

Serenity is a blend of oils composed of Lavender Flower, Cedarwood, Ho Wood Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Vetiver Root, Vanilla Bean Absolute, and Hawaiian Sandalwood. I can feel the tension easing just reading through those ingredients. These oils were carefully selected and paired together for one main purpose: relaxation.

Uses of Serenity:

  • Diffuse at night to calm a restless baby or child.
  • Apply to bottoms of feet at bedtime to help unwind before going to sleep. Use in conjunction with doTERRA Serenity Restful Complex Softgels for an enhanced effect.
  • Inhale directly from hands or diffuse throughout the day to help lesson tension.
  • Add 2–3 drops into a warm bath with Epsom salts to create a relaxing, renewing experience.
  • Apply 2–3 drops to the back of the neck or on the heart for feelings of calmness and peace.

How We Use Serenity:

As a Sleep Aid: My husband is a very hard worker with a stressful job in which he is on call basically 24 hours during the week. Insomnia is something he has suffered from for years. After trying other oils, he finally has found some relief by using this blend. We realized that diffusing it wasn’t effective enough. He puts in on the tip of his nose each night at bedtime and breathes deeply several times. He was amazed that he actually was dreaming again (or remembering his dreams). He may still wake up throughout the night, but he keeps the oil on his nightstand to use periodically and keep the wake time shorter. My mother has also started using this at bedtime and comments on how much better she now sleeps through the night.

To Relax Baby at Bedtime: Our sweet 20 month old is pretty set in her sleep schedule at this point, but can still use a little help winding down after a fun evening. It’s part of our bedtime routine to dot a little on her nose when putting PJs on. I also use Lavender Touch on her feet and wrists. Bedtime story cuddles are even better now as she smells awesome! It helps me relax as well. When we do have night wakings, I repeat the process.

To Reduce Tension or Feelings of Anxiousness: Like I said before, I will dedicate another post to the great impact the calming/relaxation blend has had on our lives, but Serenity is one half of the equation. Even on it’s own, a deep breath of this blend can reduce nervous feelings.

I dare say that there isn’t a soul out there who doesn’t feel anxious at times, or at least keyed up about something. Most of us know that aromatherapy exists and can be very powerful. Think of your favorite meal cooking or the scent of your favorite flower. One whiff can instantly alter your mood for at least a few seconds. That’s pretty amazing when you think about it. Pure essential oils have the same impact. I passionately believe that we can all benefit from them for one purpose or another. The key to using oils is consistency. You can’t be lazy with the oils and it often takes several applications (or different methods) to be effective. However, once you find what works for you, the results are worth it!

Anyone have any experience or tips on how you use Serenity in your household??
