Do you hear that sound?? Listen……it’s the jovial celebration of parents and children alike rejoicing that school is back in session. After a crazy year and a half complete with canceled semesters, homeschooling, and tedious virtual classes it seems that for the first time in many generations, even the teachers are excited to be walking through those hallowed halls. I can say with 100% transparency that I am beyond happy we missed the craziness that was school shutdowns and I pray things have returned to normal by the time Lyla is old enough to be put in the mix. I have never had so much empathy for families as a whole than while watching teachers, kids, administrators, and parents attempt to navigate this unknown terrain.

While we are still only at the Mother’s Day Out level, Rose will be joining Lyla this year. I am ecstatic at the notion of having both girls out of the house for two half-days a week. I am also painfully aware of the weeks of immune boosting Lyla went through…..and in turn the rest of the family….when she first entered school. I know we are in for a similar round of germ inundation this fall. I don’t look forward to it, but I know it is a right of passage for all kids who stay at home when they initially enter the land of “let’s all chew on this same lollipop”.

I am far from a pediatrician or dietician, or medical expert of any kind. But, I do have some knowledge that I believe has helped my family in our wellness attempts. Here are tidbits of advice and wisdom as well as six products from doTERRA everyone needs at their disposal now as kids are returning to school.

The Basics:

  • Eat Clean. Get as many fruits, veggies, whole wheat carbs, and healthy fats in your body as possible. Cut back on sugar, processed foods, and anything created in a factory versus grown. Food that comes from nature has tons of benefits that will keep you and your kids’ bodies operating at peak performance.
  • Drink Water. Stop telling yourself that you don’t like water. Pretend that you love water. That you can’t get enough water. Doctor it with real lemon or lime juice. The more you pretend, the more you will convince your brain it’s true. You will eventually make the transition into being a water chugging pro. Just stick with it……and stop complaining about it. Same goes for the kids. Juice and soda should be an occasional indulgence, not a daily habit.
  • Move that Body. Find something you enjoy: walk, yoga, spin, badminton. It doesn’t matter. Just something that gets you up and off that growing ass for 30 minutes a day.
  • Rest. This is the last pillar to you boosting your body’s ability to the utmost standard. You need 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Do it.

Back To School Essentials from doTERRA:

  • On Guard. On Guard is a blend created by doTERRA to specifically boost your body’s immune system. There is an entire line of products and I use nearly all of it. Get the oil itself to diffuse once a day, get the touch roller to apply to your kids’ spine and soles of feet before school, get the softgels for you and your spouse to take each morning, get the hand sanitizer to keep in your purse and car, get the cleaner concentrate to clean your entire house, get the hand wash to well…wash with, get the wipes to ward off supermarket cart handle mystery germs, and get the toothpaste and mouthwash for added protection in the yuckiest part of that beautiful body of yours.
  • FLOOT Blend. These are my big guns when someone in the house comes down with any type of sniffle situation. F= Frankincense, L= Lemon, O= On Guard, O= Oregano, T= Tea Tree. Put two to three drops in a roller bottle, top with FCO, and apply this to the spine and soles of feet. Adults, you can do two drops of each into a veggie capsule and take it internally 2-3 times per day instead.
  • Breathe. When stuffiness or respiratory issues emerge, Breathe is my go-to. I diffuse it and I also use the touch version on the back and chest.
  • Digest Zen or Tamer. Stomach issues? Tim and I take a Digest Zen at any sign of a gastro-related complication. For the girls, I use the Tamer blend which is pre-diluted and easy to swipe on their tummies.
  • Peppermint. Whether you need a quick energy boost to get through that late night science panorama project, or dealing with some head tension because your lovely offspring only just told you about said project the night before it’s due, keep Peppermint on hand. Swipe it on your temples and the back of your neck for a cooling effect and it’s great to diffuse!
  • LLV. I devoted an entire blog post to the supplements that I take daily. Very long story short, they make me feel good. You can try them yourself to see what I mean.

There you have it folks! I could go on and on about soooo many more products, but these are my very tip-top recommendations to benefit your family’s wellbeing this fall. Cheers to a healthy school year!!
