Fall is my favorite season and I’m super excited to see signs of it popping up all over! It signals the beginning of the cozy months where I love nothing more than the smell of turning my heat on for the first time in months, lighting the firepit, wrapping up in a sweater, and baking some delicious pumpkin muffins. A million years ago, I graduated with a degree in Interior Design. While I chose to stay home with my girls, I still love stretching my design legs by creating welcoming spaces in my home. This time of the year, it’s extra fun as we unpack the seasonal decor and play with new tones and textures. Making the house feel inviting is something that I pride myself on. This all starts with the very first impression: curb appeal. Whether planning for guests, or simply bringing a sigh of “I’m glad to be home” after a long day at work, creating your own oasis doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some ideas on how to style your front door, stoop, or porch for fall.

  1. Get something up on the door. Whether a cute sign or this festive wreath, start with the front door. It’s the natural focal point. I have slowly invested in a few wreaths that I switch out seasonally. They can be pricey, but it’s something of an investment that you can use for several years.
  2. Freshen up your welcome mat. These will not last as long as the wreaths, so don’t spend a ton here. Layered looks are popular, and I love the buffalo check as it can carry over into Christmas as well!
  3. Invest in urns. I bought two resin urns about three years ago that I put on either side of my front sidewalk. I leave them out all year and they have held up great. I simply fill them with seasonal flowers. Mums are the flower of fall and come in several colors to match your design preference.
  4. Start layering. You don’t have to buy a billion pumpkins to make your entrance welcoming. I usually put about 3 on each side but really prefer to invest in pieces that don’t rot after a few weeks. Lanterns are a great way to add a cozy glow. Make sure you purchase outdoor ones that are more likely to withstand the weather. Add some outdoor flameless candles to complete the look. Ones on a timer make it so easy to set and forget!
  5. Add some visual diversity. You don’t want your decor to all be one height. Layering things in three different heights creates an aesthetically pleasing look. I love these trees to add a bit more sparkle. Tall wordy signs are also super popular and can also add some variety to the mix.

I hope these fall entrance decorating ideas have been helpful! Creating a festive feel to your home should be fun and representative of your personal design style. You can use these guidelines with any number of items to create a cohesive look. Have fun with it!!
