My dining room table is one of the main vignettes of my home that changes with the season. It’s fun to make some simple swaps every few months to freshen the space while keeping in time with the holiday or time of year. Here are some ideas to welcome in Spring with your dining tablescape:

Here’s what stays on my table for a spring design:

  1. Runner. I use a tablecloth on occasion, but for the most part a runner does the trick. It adds a soft layer and visual interest to the table without looking too fussy. As with any season, you can tailor the design to your personal taste. My home decor mostly runs neutral so I love this one that comes in grey or blue.
  2. Clear Vase or Collection of Vases. I prefer a table that’s not overly cluttered. Using a clear or tinted vase in the center, will give a lovely centerpiece without looking too bulky. If you go with just one, make sure it’s of a large enough size that won’t look too shrimpy on its own. The one I use is similar to this. If you decide to do multiple, it’s best to go with odd numbers in three different heights. You can line the runner by placing them all across the length of the table, or do a cluster in the middle.
  3. Stems. Premade faux-floral centerpieces can be pricey. I like to go with flower or leaf stems. They are much more affordable and add even more height to your centerpiece. I put them in the afore mentioned vases and then switch them throughout the year.

So, I don’t like a ton of “stuff” sitting around, so you’ll not typically find my dining table staged as if I may have to entertain royalty at a moment’s notice. However, if I do have a nice dinner, I add a few pieces.

  1. Chargers. From my years designing weddings, a charger is one of my favorite additions to create a proper table. They take up space visually and set the tone for the layering of each place setting. Love these woven ones for spring.
  2. Dinner Plates. Once you have the charger at each seat, then you’ll want a crisp dinner plate on top. White is my personal favorite for dishware, but there are tons of more lively options out there. If you’re basic like me, you may love these scalloped edge plates.
  3. Napkins. One memory I have of my childhood is folding cloth napkins after they came out of the dryer. We almost always used cloth and pretty sure mom had them in every color available. While I haven’t kept that tradition alive, I do have a set that I like to use when entertaining. A beautiful grey can work for anytime of the year, or go with a pretty floral for spring. I like to incorporate a fun napkin-ring and then place on top of the dinner plate.
  4. Platters. I love getting my platters out for a fun brunch or dinner. However, you can also use them as part of your table decor. Love this one and this one.

Throw in your favorite water goblet, silverware, and a few votive candles, and you’ve got yourself a lovely space to enjoy a meal with family and friends. Keep it as simple as possible and try to invest in pieces that can be used for multiple times of year.

What’s your favorite way to decorate your table for spring?
