The usual statement:
It’s no secret that doTERRA essential oils are a staple in our household. You can read here about my journey in getting started with oils and why we chose this particular brand. My goal with sharing the oils is not to build a business, but to help others who are interested in using or learning more about incorporating them into their lives. There are tons of sellers and blogs out there peddling tons of different products, including essential oils. I know because I’ve navigated many of them looking for good opinions and information. I’ve found that you tend to see very similar copy over and over with the same salesy pitch. Me writing yet another version of that wouldn’t provide any additional benefit. I want to share my personal experience with these little lovelies as a mother, wife, and woman looking for simple ways to improve my and my family’s quality of life. I will offer some basic stats as a way of introducing you to the oil, but all opinions will be honest and my own.

Lemon is one of the first oils that I ordered after being introduced to doTERRA. It’s included in this dynamic trio of a starter kit. (I highly recommend this kit if you’re wanting to try out essential oils, but not wanting to invest a ton of money.) What initially drew me to the Lemon oil is the amazing scent. It’s incredibly fresh and…… well, lemony. If you’ve ever wondered what “uplifting” smells like, it’s this. However, Lemon isn’t just a pretty face. It’s a doTERRA top seller and is a powerhouse of cleansing and purifying possibilities.

How We Use Lemon Oil:

PLEASE NOTE: Not all essential oils are safe for consumption. doTERRA created a testing system for their brand that they’ve coined “CPTG” (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade). You can read more about this here. I personally have only consumed doTERRA’s oils and can not vouch for any other brands. Always be aware of how to dilute the oils to make them safe for ingesting or applying topically. Read more about this hereDo not go into the sun for 12 hours after applying Lemon to the skin. Read about photo-sensitivity and safety with the citrus oils here.

We Drink It. I regularly add two drops of Lemon oil to my water or green tea. Please only do this in a glass container and not plastic!! Lemon is known to cleanse the body and helps with digestion. It also is a natural way to flavor your water and is a great alternative at work to chopping whole lemons at your desk :). Due to the cleansing properties of Lemon, you’ll only want to use it while drinking out of a glass glass. (It’s a great excuse to start easing yourself away from using the plastic junk). I’ve used this one by Ello for years and love the silicone sleeve! It’s a great option when you’re at work or just on the go…..or have a tendency to be slightly clumsy. I also love this one, this one, and this one is great for the kiddos.

I Clean With It. Lemon is used in many of my homemade household cleaners. It’s no coincidence that many store-bought options have a “lemony fresh” chemical scent. The natural cleansing properties of the fruit have been recognized for years. The great thing is that you can reap the benefits without the toxic faux fragrance that most brands parade in their products. Here are some ways to use this handy guy during your spring cleaning session.

I Sniff It. Let’s not forget priority number one…..the smell. I love to diffuse it with other citrus oils like Grapefruit and Orange with an added drop of Peppermint or Eucalyptus for an energizing morning or afternoon blend. It also pairs wonderfully with Lavender for a calming evening option. Lemon has uplifting and purifying properties, so if you need a mood boost and simultaneously need to rid yourself of a stinky kitchen, this is your guy!

Mood Booster. Being home all day with a 23 month old can be trying. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but there are definitely moments as we trudge through the terrible twos that call for a little back-up. I keep my Lemon in the kitchen for easy access and will sometimes just put one drop on my hands, rub them together, cup over my nose, and breathe deeply two to three times. The great smell, paired with the relaxing effects of deep breathing, make for a perfect reset before I throw myself back to the wolves….aka my beautiful and amazing daughter.

Other Interesting Tidbits:

Lemon Oil is Great for Cooking. I personally haven’t tried cooking with the oils yet, but there are tons of yummy sounding recipes out there. Due to how concentrated essential oils are, it often only takes a tiny bit. It can be a great option when you don’t have the fresh variety on hand.

Research Shows Lemon Oil May Act As a Cardiovascular Aid. Studies are being done constantly to learn more about essential oils and how we can use them. Korean scientists examined the effect of lemon essential oil and isolated limonene (the primary constituent of lemon essential oil) on a model of cardiovascular health. Due to its antioxidant properties, the study concluded that lemon essential oil improved measures of cardiovascular health. I believe in modern healthcare, but I definitely think that our healthcare system should be more well-rounded. We have so much to learn about how nutrition and essential oils can be used in conjunction with our current system. **These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.

I’d love to hear how you and your family utilize this awesome oil! I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have! I speak from my personal experience and am far from an expert, but I will help in any way that I can. Please see my disclaimer regarding health topics.
