While we are fanning through each toy magazine over and over with Lyla, my sweet Rose just turned 17 months old and is blissfully unaware of the Christmas magic overload that is about to encompass our lives for the next six weeks. She takes every single cue from her big four year old sis, so I have no doubt the enthusiasm will set in quickly. And as Lyla can recite her wishlist in perfect poetic timing, Rose is in that awesome phase of no opinion (at least not on toys) relinquishing all control to mom and dad. Here’s what we came up with…

  1. Food Truck. Santa brought Lyla a play kitchen when she was Rose’s age and Rose has already played with it more than Lyla ever did. This cute food truck had some great reviews, so I’ll be curious to see if she takes to it. Lyla does love to play “cafe” (aka restaurant), so I look forward to watching them play with this together.
  2. Photo Album. She is obsessed with browsing through photos….on my phone…because that’s where all of my precious photos have remained for the last ten years. Screen time isn’t needed at her age, so my goal with this sweet little book is to offer her some family photos she can enjoy without begging for a phone whenever it’s in view.
  3. Mega Bloks Train. We have the original Mega Bloks set from when Lyla was Rose’s age. I thought this musical train would be a fun addition.
  4. New Bath Toys. Like all things with the second baby, Rose has been awarded Lyla’s old bath toys. While she doesn’t seem to mind….yet, these things just get funky after so many uses. I love that this set allows for entertainment and ingenuity as they can move the pieces to create different combinations.
  5. Christmas Lovey. It’s so funny watching how different your children are, even at such a young age. Lyla has never been attached to a special stuffed animal or gets overly excited about them. Rose on the other hand must sleep with her beloved bunny, a cozy blanket, and whatever her favorite extra lovey of the day is. We recently left Kroger with not one, but two small Christmas stuffed puppies. I thought she’d go in for a quick cuddle and then we’d put them back on the shelf. Ummm no, she snuggled both of them while eating a snack throughout the entire duration of our shopping trip. Drooled and crumbed on, they were ours for keeps.
  6. New Books. My girls were born three years apart and in the same month, so Rose gets hand-me-downs…..lots and lots of hand-me-downs. This includes all of the amazing books that this mom has read 532 times each. It’s time for a refresh!
  7. Little People Pirate Ship. Lyla has officially passed all of her Little People hand-me-downs to sissy. This includes a princess castle, barn, and baby set which Rose all adores. Lyla herself actually picked this one out with what I’m sure was a somewhat selfish motive. Nonetheless, I thought it was cute and look forward to seeing them enjoy it together.
  8. Singing Peppa Plush. While not the original voice from the show, I still thought this was cute….and the song’s not annoying. Rose loves Peppa and actually “oinks” when she sees her #adorable.
  9. Rolling Push Toy. Remember those pushy popping toys that were popular when we were babies? Yea, me neither because my dad refused to allow them over his threshold. The constant “pop, pop, pop” which was created to entertain little ones comes with a side dose of a parental eye-twitch. This newer version does still make a sound, but it’s more of a consistent hum and the colors that form on the roller are pretty cool. Here’s to progress!

What does your 18 month old love??
